The seconds of life tick on and on
They come so fast, and then they’re gone
The seconds tick on and on
Each moment of each day we choose
to waste our time or wisely use
The seconds tick on and on
And once we’ve let a second pass
it won’t come back, they do not last
The seconds tick on and on
So will you use the time you’ve got
to build things up or let them rot?
The seconds tick on and on
From the day we’re born to the day we die
Those seconds count on as our years go by
The seconds tick on and on
The seconds tick on and on my friend
They mark your time from start to end
The seconds tick on and on

The prompt for NaPoWriMo today is to write a “call and response” poem where one voice makes a statement, and then another voice, or a chorus, calls back a response. In this case, the response is The seconds tick on and on. My hope is that the repetitive refrain will give the feel of the relentless march of time.
Great. I like it. You can almost feel the seconds ticking with each beat of the poem.
So true — and lovely.
Wise words, and the chorus stays printed in the mind.
Makes you think! 😉 Nice poem!
Well done! I’ve been having troubles following prompts! Excellent message.
well done&&& I can feel “them””””””
I espcially like ” the feel of the march of relentless time””””
Thank you, Bryan! This is beautiful and so true!
Yay, you! Congrats on being chosen for today’s featured poet at NaPo! 🙂 Well deserved!
Thank you!
I really love the rhythmic feel of this, and the message it contains.
