Lunar Eclipse

moon’s light occulted
by earth’s dark’ning shadow –
the colour of blood


This evening, I had the privilege to watch a total lunar eclipse with my family (we watched until the point of total occlusion, but not the unveiling as we were all getting quite cold, and the kids all have school tomorrow too).

“Occulted” is a rather archaic term for the occluding, or covering, or a celestial body during an eclipse. The darker, “religious” usage of the word “occult” is not intended, although due to the somewhat ominous appearance of the moon, the usage of the word was deliberate
