Sunflowers

About a decade ago, I went to the small town of Altona in the southern part of Manitoba (Canada).  One of this community’s claims to fame is the giant reproduction of the Van Gogh painting shown above.

Including the easel, this picture stands 76′ 6″ (just over 23 meters) in height.  I was able to see this sculpture from the window of the b&b that I was staying at while visiting the community.  So naturally, when Kristjaan  Panneman (host of Carpe Diem Haiku Kai) gave “Sunflowers” as the theme, and featured the Van Gogh painting, I immediately thought of my trip to Altona.  Kristjaan is from the Netherlands, as was Van Gogh… and over here in Canada, the world’s largest reproduction of the painting stands proudly in a small community in the province of Manitoba
