Does The Acorn Dream – a rondeau for dVerse

Does the acorn dream about what one day it will be
Does it know that one day it will be a mighty tree
Sitting there so silent in its little hidden nook
Waiting just to sprout beside the babbling, burbling brook
Does the acorn dream?

Does it worry that with roots it never can be free
Or does it think instead of all the wonders it will see
Can it know of beauty and how stately it will look
Does the acorn dream?

Will its timbers be a boat that sails across the sea
Or does it hope to be a can for one with weakened knee
Pieces on a chessboard such as pawn and king and rook
Will its wood make paper that will one day be a book
Can it even think about potentiality?
Does the acorn dream?

  1. What a creative idea here. Makes me wonder as well. From such a small thing can become something of greatness. This poem has meanings on many levels. Nice!
