“Air” Quotes

Three things are important about air-quotes.  First: Where you “place” them changes the meaning.  Second: Where you place them “changes” the meaning.  And Third: Where you place them changes the “meaning.”


Written for the Trifecta weekend challenge (Trifextra).  This week’s challenge was to play around with the following quote:

  1. Very clever indeed. I found myself thinking of the different meanings. You could start a series with this, air kisses, hugs and guitars just for a start.

  2. It’s a proven fact (or if it isn’t, it darn well should be) that using air-quotes is “addictive” and once you start “using” “them”, it’s “difficult” to “stop”. Of course, your “emphasis” “becomes” “rather” “tiring” but I’m “certain” that’s part of the “fun”.
